Mona Al-Moayyad

Mona Almoayyed is a Bahraini businesswoman who leads the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society, which manages the development and strengthening of economic and social relations among businesswomen in Bahrain. She also works to enhance the role of Bahraini women and their contribution to all commercial, economic, investment, and development activities. She also works to highlight and promote Bahraini women’s participation on boards of directors, in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as in banks and investment companies. She has also launched numerous initiatives, including the Women’s Gateway project, an online platform dedicated to all women’s needs, including a directory of businesswomen, starting in Bahrain and expanding to the Gulf and Arab world. This, in turn, places Bahraini women on the global internet map. In addition to her duties as President of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society, Mona Almoayyed is a board member of Yusuf Khalil Almoayyed & Sons, one of the most prominent family-owned businesses in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In 2012, Arabian Business magazine selected Mona Almoayyed in its list of the 500 Most Powerful Arabs for 2012, ranking Mona Almoayyed 130th. Furthermore, she is the first woman elected to the board of directors of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was appointed Chairperson of the Businesswomen’s Committee. She was also ranked 12th in a 2008 Forbes study titled “The Most Powerful Arab Women” and fourth in the list of “The 50 Most Powerful People in the Kingdom of Bahrain.” Mona Almoayyed served as Chairperson and founding member of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society for three terms (2006-2012) and as Chairperson of the Migrant Workers Protection Society for three terms (2005-2011).

Early life and education

University of Westminster, where Al-Moayyad obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration.
Mona Almoayyed was born in Bahrain . Mona Almoayyed is the daughter of the founder of the Yusuf Khalil Almoayyed & Sons Group of Companies, and is directly responsible for over a thousand employees and over a hundred prestigious brands of luxury goods, electronics , home appliances, heavy equipment , medical technology, and concrete .Almoayyed holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Westminster , London , UK , in 1974.

Career

Almoayyed is the Executive Director of Yusuf Khalil Almoayyed & Sons. Between 1974 and 2000, she was the Executive Director of the Automotive Division of Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons. Since 2003, she has served as the Treasurer and Board Member of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society for a year. In 2005, Almoayyed chaired the Society for the Protection of Migrant Workers’ Rights . The following year, Almoayyed assumed the position of President of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society . Concurrently, Almoayyed has been the Vice President of the Gulf Businesswomen’s Committee – Federation of Gulf Cooperation Council Chambers since 2004; and President of the Businesswomen’s Committee of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The 500 Most Powerful Personalities
In 2012, Arabian Business magazine selected Mona Almoayyed in its list of the 500 Most Powerful Arabs for 2012, ranking her 130th. Arabian Business stated in its profile of Mona Almoayyed that she leads the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society , which manages the development and strengthening of economic and social relations among businesswomen in Bahrain . She also works to promote and strengthen the role of Bahraini women and their contribution to all commercial, economic, investment and development activities. She also works to highlight and enhance the participation of Bahraini women on boards of directors, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry , banks and investment companies. The society has undertaken numerous initiatives, including the launch of the Women’s Gateway project , an online platform dedicated to all women’s needs and including a directory of businesswomen, starting with Bahrain and extending from there to the Gulf and the Arab world, thus positioning Bahraini women on the global internet map. The magazine added that in addition to her duties as president of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society, Mona Almoayyed serves as a board member of Yusuf Khalil Almoayyed & Sons, one of the most prominent family businesses in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In a brief statement, she said: “ Arab women today play many important roles in driving the economy towards a better and brighter future. Our ambition, enthusiasm, and all our efforts are dedicated to changing the perception of women in this region.
